HIGHSCHOOL NEW YORK, PARIS AND LONDON

There are nods towards both the bright jubilance of jangle pop and the energy of post-punk in HighSchool’s ‘New York, Paris and London’. You can feel the likes of The Smiths and Joy Division merging with industrial sounds and wide synths to create something both nostalgic and modern. At the same time, the track feels both uplifting and dark. The track is a self-confessed “exploration of the swinging pendulum between social anxiety and elation”, with those fuzzy synths and choppy guitars landing on the side of elation, and the muffled lead vocal and black and white music video taking the more anxious route. The Australian trio drop their debut EP in early 2021. -Dan Peeke
